反应堆性能的通常量度是它的负载系数。如果在一年中反应堆以满功率不间断地运行,它就具有100%的负载系数。反应堆由于维修被关停或低于满功率运行,负载系数百分率将降低。根据1987年9月的统计,西方世界的250个大型核动力反应堆,按标志运行特点的负载系数对比,前10名中有8个是加拿大的坎杜型反应堆(CANDU—Canada Deuterium Uranium(HeavyWater)Reacter)。
