“真空火花”(“sparking of the Vacu-um”)是量子电动力学非常奇异的预言之一。在探索“真空火花”时,塔姆施达特GSI的两个重离子实验小组发现了相当出人意料并且让人非常迷惑不解的事情。如果有某个电荷数Z 足够高的核,在最低位电子轨道上有个空位,那末它由真空自发产生一个电子-正电子对较之失去这个轨道空位,在能量上要更容易些。事实上,这就是QED 所预言的真空火花,或者说“自发正电子发射”。
