人们认为,利用~(48)Ca+~(248)Cm 的熔合反应是合成超重元素的最有效的方法之一,因为由此得到的复合核是Z=116号元素的同位素(中子数N=180),离双幻核Z=114,N=184最近。理论预言,这个双幻核正是第一稳定岛的中心。如果没有壳效应,这个复合核将立即分裂为两块。实验和理论表明,试图利用熔合反应来合成超重核,要求靶越重越好,而炮弹越轻越好,且两者都应该是丰中子的。
