Software Design of the HIRFL-CSRm Kicker Power Supply Monitoring System

  • The Kicker power supply for the main ring of the Cooling Storage Ring(CSRm) is a crucial component of the injection and extraction system at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou(HIRFL). Its primary function is to deliver pulsed current to the Kicker magnets, thereby generating a fast-pulsed magnetic field that facilitates the rapid extraction of the beam. The main functions of CSRm Kicker power supply monitoring system are remote monitoring of high voltage charging power supply and thyratron auxiliary power supply, high-precision charging and discharging timing control and acquisiting of 100-nanosecond level output current waveform. The system adopts hardware description language Verilog for software design, based on Gigabit Ethernet and optical fiber serial communication to solve the remote monitoring problem of high voltage charging power supply and thyratron auxiliary power supply; based on high-precision clock to achieve high-precision charging and discharging timing control of multi-module power supply, the discharging delay adjustment accuracy can reach 2 ns; based on JESD204B IP core to receive high-speed serial data output from Analog-to-Digital Converter(ADC) with sampling rate of 2.5 Gsps and uses the high-speed serial transceiver to achieve high-speed transmission of waveform data, solving the problem of monitoring the output waveform of the Kicker power supply. The power supply monitoring system enables easier and better monitoring of the power supply status. The implementation of the high-speed output waveform acquisition function lays the foundation for the establishment of the output waveform database and the implementation of the synchronous adjustment function for the discharging of multiple power supply modules. The system has been validated on the CSRm Kicker power supply and provides an important reference for the design of the Kicker power supply monitoring system for the High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility(HIAF).
